Kun Lu（ http://kunnybear.blogspot.com/ ）を訪ねにPalo Altoにも行ってきました。約5ぶりくらいに会いましたが、相変わらずエネルギーに溢れていて、よくしゃべり、それでいて一緒にいてとても心地よい彼女でした。彼女は、世の中にはこんな人もいるんだなあと思わせてくれる友達の一人です。頭脳明晰（Yale大学の看護学校をHonors Student*として卒業したそう）だけど、新しい職場でのオリエンテーションの途中でも居眠りしてしまうくらいすっとぼけていて、今もイタリアからのStanfordへの留学生を妹のようにかわいがる優しい心の持ち主です。コロンビアで育ち、台湾で高校を卒業し、アメリカで学士と修士を取得し、これからは、子供向けの看護をPalo Altoの病院でするそうです。その自由な心とエネルギーにはなんだか久々に元気づけられました。
自分もこれから始まる二年間の学生生活の間に２つか３つくらい何かを成し遂げたいと思っています。彼女のように、自由な心を持って挑戦したいなあ。

My next adventure in Europe is likely to be interesting.
今日、Open Campus dayに話をした日本在住のアメリカ人からメールをもらいました。当時、彼も同じく面接を受けにきており、彼も合格したようです。9月からはクラスメートになります。
彼のブログをチェックしてみましたが、中々面白そうな人です。東京で仕事をする傍ら、モデルをしたり、俳優をしたり、ナイスガイをしたり（？）。
ヨーロッパでの次のアドベンチャーも楽しくなりそうです。]]>

Twitter, a social network for murmuring (?), has been gaining a big influence. Many famous people, companies and institutions such as Bill Gates, Apple, Microsoft and even President Obama have been using this online network service. It appeared and spread very quickly like Facebook a few years ago.
So what's this site all about...? Why has it spread so quickly? In Twitter, you can write anything you want to express as you do in a blog but with a restriction of 140 characters. For example, you write what you most care recently, what is in your mind, etc. Then, people who are interested in you and/or your thoughts will "follow" you so that they can check your posts anytime. Even though it will require me more time to fully understand this online service, one great thing about Twitter I can think of is convenience. With the 140 character restriction, you can merely type one or two sentences. So you just write a current hot topic in your mind and maybe paste a link to some website. Or you just write what you are doing as you do in Facebook.
Twitter is also attractive for companies and institutions. Many companies and institutions make announcement on Twitter nowadays. Apple posts topics of its blog entries. Microsoft has just posted a link to the article about its new Windows 7.
The schools I have been admitted are not exceptions. They make announcement of their events, press release, etc. For instance, one of the schools just had its commencement and it posted on Twitter "Tomorrow is Commencement! Calling for a beautiful New England spring day. About 815 graduates will receive degrees (MBA and MS)."
Many social networking sites such as Friendster, Myspace, Facebook have emerged and now Twitter is being focused. Where is this virtual world heading for?]]>

Doing Good and Doing Wellというこの分野ではヨーロッパでは最も大きいカンファレンスの一つをホストしています。参加スピーカにはClinton Foundation's HIV/AIDS InitiativeやAshokaの人を始め、何十といった人が来るようです。Websiteによるとこのカンファレンスは、"The Doing Good and Doing Well Conference (DGDW) is a two-day event with interactive panel discussions on major opportunities and challenges faced by responsible businesses and organizations. i came back from Barcelona, Spain last weekend. I was there for a school's admission interview.
School's image I had was improved through the open campus program I attended. I had an opportunity to participate a mock case study, speak with current students and alumni, and discuss with career service people. In the session of a career management, an interesting topic was held. One of the alumni shared her experience of working for a Non profit organization in Kenia for her summer internship. Since I am interested in working for a non profit organization in the summer break, I asked them if the school could help me find that opportunity. They answered me that they focused on a social responsibility of students and that there would be many opportunities in the school.
The school holds every year one of the big conferences in this field in Europe, Doing Good and Doing Well. Speakers include Clinton Foundation's HIV/AIDS Initiative, Ashoka and many others. According to its website, this conference is

結局出願やら面接やらで忙しく、またしばらくブログの更新ができていませんでした。先週月曜日にシカゴで面接を受け、残すは後面接が一校だけとなりました。
今は、シアトルへ帰る途中で、ボストンのローガン空港にいます。ボストンではある学校のイベントに参加してきました。この学校はいわゆる伝統的なビジネススクールとは少し違い、起業家育成と実践的なアプローチに焦点をあてたプログラムを持っています。投資銀行をやめて起業をしたい人、自分でも絵を描きアート関係の会社を作りたい人と、イベントに参加していた学生たち（またはこれから学生になる人たち）は、皆何かしら起業マインドをもっていました。この学校を受験した理由の一つですが、社会的起業家の育成にも力を入れ始めています。
社会的起業家とは一言でいうと、社会的な分野での起業家です。営利、非営利に限らず社会に貢献する為にビジネスを立ち上げる人が最近増えています。最も良く知られているのは貧しい人たちがローンすることを可能にしたマイクロファイナンスの創始者バングラディシュのムハメド ユヌスさんでしょう。
自分は、ビジネススクールで得た知識やスキルをいつか社会貢献に役立てたいと思っており、それがビジネススクールに進学したい大きな理由の一つですが、このイベントに参加して思ったことは、自分は起業家になりたいのかということ。リスクを背負ってまで起業をしたいのかと言われるとYesのようなNoのような気がします。
進学先を決める迄は少し時間があるので、シアトルに帰ってからゆっくりと考えたいと思います。
I have not been able to write my blog for a long time mainly because I have been too involved with applying to graduate schools. Last Monday, I had an interview with a school based in Chicago. Now I only have one more interview.
At the Logan airport, I'm writing this blog entry on my way back to Seattle. I attended an event at a school to which I have been accepted. The event was great. It confirmed me that the school is different from traditional business schools. The school's program focuses on entrepreneurship and practical methods rather than academic knowledge. It seemed like everyone who was in the event, whether current or prospective students, somehow had entrepreneurship mind. Someone who is quitting an investment bank to learn entrepreneurship, someone who paints and wants to make up his company in an art field, etc... The school also has started focusing on Social Entrepreneurship as one of the entrepreneurship program, which made me apply to this school.
Social Entrepreneurship has been focused as a topic in many schools lately. The word basically means entrepreneurship in a social sector. There are entrepreneurs who starts their own business, whether profit or non profit, to contribute their activities to a society. The most famous player is probably Muhammad Yunus who invented micro finance in Bangladesh.
However, the question to me is whether I want to be an entrepreneur. Do I want to be an entrepreneur? Do I have enough courage to take all the risks coming with becoming an entrepreneur? I am hoping to get involved in social enterprise activities in the future with business skills I will obtain from a business school but I am not sure if I really want to be an entrepreneur at this point.
Fortunately, I will have some time to think about this question before I make a decision. After I go back to Seattle, I will spend my time to find an answer.

元々は大学卒業後何をしたら良いのかわからない学生たちが世の中の仕事を知るために、ロードトリップを始めたのがきっかけですが、世の中の仕事に対して情熱がない人に情熱をもってもらおうというコンセプトで、色んな仕事に燃える人たちを紹介して行ってるサイトです。実際そういう人たちとインタビューをして映像をサイトにアップしています。
皆にモチベーションを与えるという点ではKEEPとも共通するところがあるなあと思いました。

何日ぶりにこのブログを書くのでしょう・・・。最後にブログを書いてから、結局、体調や忙しさの為に更新できていませんでした。KEEPとしての活動もほぼおやすみ状態・・。読んでくれていた方やCreatorの方々には申し訳ないです。引き続き、忙しい状態が後数ヶ月は続きそうですが、余裕がでてくればもう少しアップデートして行きたいと思います。
日本に帰ってきていましたが、近日中にまたシアトルに戻ります。

先日YonexがSeattleに来ました。NYCに行った後帰りに寄ってくれました。久々の再会を懐かしむと共に、KEEPのこれまで行ってきたこと、今後について話し合いました。自分がSeattleに来た後、物理的に難しい面もあって色々揺れていますが、再確認したことは、KEEPは、「皆が楽しめる場の提供／夢を持つ人の応援」をVisionに掲げてやっていくということです。これははっきりと言葉にはしなかったもののこれまでKEEPがイベントやHPを通して行ってきたことです。KEEPらしさとは、まさに我々がこれまでやってきたことで、これからはKEEPらしさを保った活動をもっと行って行きたいというところで二人の意見は一致しました。
今後具体的にどういうことを行って行くかはまだ明かせませんが、上記を芯に活動していくつもりです。

ようやく体調が少しずつよくなってきました。針治療を受けたのですが、先生曰く、体が弱っていて脈が更年期の人の脈のようとのことでした・・・笑 どうやら、体に無理をしすぎたようです。結局原因ははっきりせずですが、背中から首にかけてしこりができていたこと（実は肩こりというものを経験したことがほぼなくて全然気づかなかった）、針の先生の話を考えると、疲労ストレスの可能性が高そうです。
コメントくれた皆さんほんとありがとうございました。一人だとほんと色々考えてしまって、皆のコメント助けられました。改めて、友達や家族の大切さを感じました。

二週間経っても熱が下がらず、夜中に頭痛がしたので、今朝朝一でまた病院に行きました。血液検査をしてもらったところ、救急だったので基本的な検査しかできないが、特に異常はなく、どこから熱がきているのかわからないとのことでした。フルーツや野菜をたくさん食べて、一日9時間以上寝ているにも関わらず、目の下のくまが今ひとつひかなかったり口内炎ができていると言うと、それらはストレスからくる可能性もあると言われました。それにしても長い・・・。高熱が出て何もできないというわけではないんですが、今ひとつ活動できず、夜になると熱が上がって頭がボーっとしたりします。ストレスからきているんでしょうか・・・。確かに、この半年くらいの間に、プレッシャーとの中の勉強に加えて、近い関係だった叔父の身に不幸があり、上司との対立があり、傷心し、楽しみにしていた友達の来訪がなくなり等々落ち込んだり考えたりするばかりで心を休める暇がなかった気がします。
いい加減治って欲しいです・・・。

無理がたたったのかとうとう体を壊してしまいました。しかも、テストの一週間前に・・・。体力的にも精神的にも随分弱っていたようです。おかげでテストの結果はさんざんなものとなってしまいました。これまでの苦労を考えると泣きそうですが、テストはまた受けるチャンスがあるのでポジティブに考えるしかありません。にしても、中々治りません。熱があるだけで大したことはないのですが、中々熱がひきません。体調管理できなかったのも自分の責任ですが、

ここのところ、ブログを全然更新できていません。KEEPの活動もあまりできていません。
私事ですが、来年からビジネスを勉強しに大学院に行こうと思っています。数ヶ月前からその準備で寝る間を惜しんで勉強する毎日です。勉強は受験勉強ばりに大変で、それを母国語でない言葉ですること、生活環境面等から考えるとある意味受験勉強より大変かもしれません。プレッシャーも大きく、くじけそうになることが多いですがなんとか挑戦してみようと思っています。
孤独に勉強していると、家族や友達の大切さを身にしみて感じます。励まし合ったり、支えてもらったりすることで人はポジティブさを保てるのかなあと思います。
というわけで、KEEPは続けるつもりでYonexとも話していますが、今はちょっとペースダウン気味です。

カメラが見当たらずアップがおくれました。
昨日はアメリカの独立記念日でした。独立記念日とは、1776年にイギリスからThomas Jeffersonがアメリカ１３州の独立を宣言した日。ある意味自由を宣言した日とでもなるのでしょうか。そういった意味ではもっともアメリカらしい記念日かもしれません。
こちらでは独立記念日はクリスマスと並ぶ大きなイベント。あちこちに国旗が飾られたりしていました。Seattleはほんとに湖の街だということを改めて実感しました。いくつかの湖には花火台が設置され、夜10:00から一斉に花火が打ち上げられました。湖には待っていたとばかりにたくさんのボートが出動。ボートから花火を見るという優雅な花火を楽しんでいる人がたくさんいました。幸運にも家から花火をみることができ、良いJuly 4thを過ごすことができました。]]>
